A Short Film About Space

A Short Film About Space

Into the Void

OPUS⁰⁰¹ Negative Structures is a short film about space made by Inigma Studio.

The Idea was to explore space through a unique perspective. This is not another intersteller-esque film. We aimed to explore space through the lens of "anomalies" - structures that are rather peculiar, not something you'd typically see in space - yet feels like it belongs there, somewhere, perhaps in an "alternate dimension", a Negative space. Having negative structures.

The film journeys through various abstract structures that fill you with awe, mystery and intrigue. It feels like an unusually welcoming place which - though vast and alone and mostly empty - feels safe, warm, like home. It's a strange place for someone known to be strange. It's wandering into the unknown, finding comfort in something away from the norm, something inviting. A mysterious entity exciting the mysterious curiosity of a mysterious person.

It's a place for those not of this world. A place where anomalies feel welcoming, where surrealism feels more real, more sensible, more welcoming, more... sane - than "reality" itself.

The Challenge

The challenge for this film was to visualize space in a new original way. Too many space films exist out there, most look the same or explore the same concepts or themes. We wanted to explore space from a new and unique perspective. Hence the idea of negative structures. The original idea was to explore structures that seem like they belong in space but don't actually exist. Completely unique and original structures that are not scientifically found in space, but could seem like they belong there.

As we explored various idea, the project shifted to a new direction - of having 2 phases, positive and negative structures. Positive structures showing similar space phenomenon, negative structures showing those unique anomalies.

A blackhole in the film marks the transition point between the two structures - the blackhole being the "portal" that leads you to the "negative" side of space. Here we explore strange space auroras, orbitals, wormholes and sea bed of galaxies with a unique "center" of the universe.
